This is one of the most common worries of people thinking about joining a yoga class, and the answer is no, you really don’t have to be flexible to practice yoga! In fact, not being flexible is one of the reasons to come to yoga! Practising yoga regularly will help to improve flexibility, but it’s more about how it feels than what it looks like.
Come as you are, any way you feel comfortable! There is no need for any special, expensive yoga gear at a SoulTribe class, though of course if that’s your vibe, you do you! Joggers, shorts, leggings, and T shirts are all fine. Hoodies are tricky (especially when you’re upside-down!)
Just your fab self and a sense of humour! It’s a practice - people wobble on the mat, just as they do in life, and a playful, light-hearted approach is welcomed! Mats, blankets and any props are provided, though you’re also welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Yoga is generally a barefoot practice as it’s safer that way, but if you prefer you can buy some grippy yoga socks from our on-site or online shop.
First of all, welcome to the start of your yoga journey! We’re so glad you’re thinking of making yoga a part of your life. It’s probably best to start with one of our Beginners courses, and then once your confidence has started to build give a Slow and Soulful class a try. If the Beginners class times don’t suit, we offer modifications and alternative poses in every class, so just have a chat with your teacher.
We want you to feel completely comfortable in your SoulTribe Yoga class, so while hands-on adjustments might be offered, your teacher will always check first whether you are ok with that and will respect your decision.
We play quiet music to suit the style and vibe of the class and to help deepen your experience of the practice. However, it’s early important that you can hear your teacher’s instructions, so it’s never too loud.
We encourage a holistic approach to yoga, so most of our classes include some breathing practices, guided meditations and relaxation (known as Savasana) at the end of class. You don’t need to be a experienced in any of these things, your teacher will guide you every step of the way. We just want you to leave feeling a little better than when you arrived.
We offer specific Pregnancy Yoga classes which you are very welcome to join from 13 weeks. These classes are designed to help mothers-to-be connect with their unborn child, stay fit and supple during pregnancy and also learn lots of relaxation and breathing techniques. If you think you might be pregnant and it’s your first trimester, be sure to let your regular class teacher know.
