How long does it take to find an Au Pair?

We aim to find an Au Pair who matches your family’s needs as soon as possible but we never trade quality of match for speed.

Does an Au Pair pay Income Tax and National Insurance?

Not generally because Au Pairs are not classed as “workers” and their earnings  for the school holidays will be below the Income Tax and National Insurance thresholds. If in any doubt about your Au Pair’s specific circumstances, contact your local tax office for advice or look on www.hmrc.gov.uk

Does SHS place Au Pairs in all parts of the UK?

Yes, we are committed to providing a first class nationwide service.

What should I know about Au Pairs and Driving?

We’ve put together a handy list of hints and tips on driving to guide you through the process – just click on this link – Au Pairs and Driving.

What questions should I ask an Au Pair at interview?

Once we have set up a Skype or telephone interview for you with one or more of our Au Pairs, we will provide you with a list of questions to help guide the interview.

What checks do you carry out on Au Pair candidates?

Everyone who wants to be an SHS Au Pair must provide us with 2 references, one relating to childcare experience and the other, a personal reference from someone who has known them for at least 2 years but is not a member of their family. We follow up these references. In addition, every SHS Au Pair must provide us with a criminal records check from their own country and a medical report or certificate showing that they are fit and well to work as an Au Pair.

What do I do if I have a Problem with my Au Pair?

At SHS, we recognise how important it is for both families and Au Pairs to know that we are here to support them. Right from the start of the placement, it’s vital for you to get to know each other, to talk through any issues and to make sure that everyone knows what is expected of them. In the unlikely event that things don’t resolve, we can offer our expertise and assistance to both you and your Au Pair.

Do we have to take our Au Pair on our family holiday?

This is up to you. Either way, you should discuss this with your Au Pair before the placement is made and provide accommodation, all meals and pay the agreed pocket money regardless.
