THE CAPITAL: LONDON

It is one of the worldleading tourist destinations with over 30 million international visitors to the city each year. And no wonder, London is a vibrant, historic, Royal and modern city with many world famous attractions.

If you are interested in History and the arts, London boasts an abundance of excellent museums, many of which offer free entry.  The British museum holds seven million exhibits from Great Britain and around the world, Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.  The Elgin Marbles, the Rosetta Stone and the world’s oldest mummy.  The Natural History and the Victoria and Albert are two other very large museums which will take several days to get around

Take a Thames river cruise which will take you past many historic and modern buildings as you cruise up to the Tower of London, the famous royal fortress which also houses the priceless Crown Jewels.  Visit Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court Palace, Tower bridge, Shakespeare Globe Theatre, Downing Street and the Palace of Westminster which includes Big Ben (the huge bell in the clock tower) See London from the high above the river on the London Eye.

London has one of the best transport systems in the world.  The underground system (The Tube) provides an extensive and very efficient way of getting around complemented by the famous London buses.

Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral are a must to visit.  Watch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, the Horse Guards at St James’s Palace or visit the Churchill War Rooms deep underground in Westminster. 

If it is shopping you like, London has one of the world longest shopping streets, Oxford Street.  Here you can find almost anything you desire.  Try up market Regent and Bond Streets, or the huge department store of Selfridges.   Of course, all shoppers should visit the world famous Harrods.  Wonder at the array and quality of goods for sale there,  Of course some are very expensive but there are also ‘affordable’ items for sale too.  If you want to experience the ultimate English afternoon tea, why not visit the Ritz?

London has an abundance of Pubs, Restaurants for every taste and night life for the young and not so young.   Visit vibrant Soho, Greek Street or Covent Garden.  You will find lots of excellent Restaurants and Pubs in all those places.
London’s West End is the Theatre district, offering shows to rival any other in the world with original productions of musicals, drama and the spectacular.  Stroll around Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Covent Garden to see street entertainers and enjoy the ambience as you enjoy a pint or two in many of the pubs around those areas.  Of course, the pubs offer excellent food as well as hundreds of different beers, wines and spirits.  Eat, drink and be Merry………in Merry England.
