Culloden: where the final defeat of the Jacobite Rebellion took place. Stunning Eilean Donan Castle, once a stronghold against the Vikings. Sterling Castle where you can visit the Wallace Monument (Brave heart fame)
Glasgow is Scotland's largest city. Designated a UNESCO Creative City for its music, the city’s live music scene is among the best in Britain Just south of Glasgow, visit Gretna Green, famous for holding runaway marriages.
Visit the Highlands of Scotland. Home of the clans, tartans, kilts and the famous Scottish dish, the haggis. The home to spectacular and often rugged scenery, including mountain ranges, national parks, lochs and glens. Follow the glens and lochs of Western Scotland from Glasgow into the romantic areas of Loch Lomond – Scotland’s largest lake overlooked by dramatic mountains including the magnificent Ben Lomond. Of course, you just have to visit Scotland’s most famous lake: Loch Ness, home to the mythical Loch Ness monster….there have been many claims of sightings over the years, maybe you will get lucky too? On the West coast you can visit Fort William home of Scotland’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is the northernmost city in the British Isles.
SCOTISH ISLANDS
Scotland's has many islands dotted around its northern and Western coastlines, Historic Orkney Islands with its World Heritage Site of SKara brae, believed to have been inhabited since 3,100 BC. The northernmost island of the Inner Hebrides, Isle of Skye with its Dunvegan Castle and capital of Portree. Continue up to the Isle of Mull to Duart Castle or to Iona, one of Scotland’s most sacred sites and birthplace of Celtic Christianity. Visit Iona Abbey, where 48 Scottish kings, including Duncan, who fell victim to Macbeth, are buried.
You can travel around Scotland at your own leisure, take in the breathtaking sights, it’s relaxing and historic places. Take a boat ride on the famous lochs, climb one of the many mountains and enjoy breathtaking views across the highlands. Maybe visit the place of your ancestors?
