WALES

Land of Majestic Mountain ranges, Beautiful valleys, dramatic coast lines, steeped in History and even has its own language!  A country of some 3 million people and over 11 million sheep!  A country which has more castles per square miles than anywhere else in the world.   Where breathtaking scenery is the norm and the pace of life is a little slower in the mountains and valleys of this beautiful country.
Visit any of the 3 National Parks of Wales, each with their own unique reason for visiting:

  • Snowdonia (North Wales) – Discover Wales highest mountains
  • Brecon beacons (Mid Wales) – Spectacular mountain scenery and castles
  • Pembrokeshire Coast South Wales) – Stunning coastal scenery.
Castles

Wales has over 600 castles.  Too many to list but Caernarvon Castle  Harlech Castle, Beaumaris  Castle - are magnificent examples of castles built by Kind Edward I in Wales after the Norman invasion in circa 1285) There are too many castles to mention but where ever you go in Wales, you will find yourself not far from a castle!
"In a country with relatively few great churches and abbeys, and even fewer unfortified manor houses, the Castles of Wales form the most imposing group of monuments left from the Middle Ages. In terms of grandeur they are second only to the dramatic landscape."        Adrian Pettifer - Welsh Castles

The Romans in Wales

Wales was the furthest outpost of the Roman Empire. In AD 75, the Romans built a fortress at Caerleon that would guard the region for over 200 years.   Visit the National Museum of Wales where you can learn about the time the Romans spent in Wales, how they lived, fought, worshiped and died.  The museum lies inside what remains of the Caerleon fortress and include the most complete roman amphitheatre and legionary barracks in Britain.

See Wales from the highest mountain in Wales – By train.

Yes, by train.    Train track was completed in 1896 employing ‘rack and pinion’technology from the mountains of Switzerland.  The train runs from the small valley town of LLanberis and rises to 3560 feet to the rooftop of Wales.   Enjoy stunning and dramatic scenery on the way and once at the summit, you may enjoy a snack and drinks at the summit café, buy unique gifts from the small shop before venturing outside to enjoy the stunning scenery overlooking the adjoining mountains and lakes...

Enjoy the cities, towns and villages of Wales with historic links, friendly people, great choice of places to stay, things to do.  Lots of festivals, great Museums (most are free), sporting events and glorious and challenging golf courses.  Beautiful scenery, riverside pubs, music where ever you go….the Welsh are very proud of their choirs!  There is something for everyone in Wales.
